Power4Patriots Scam Alert

And here we go again!

As fast as we get a post debunking the Power4Home Scam they change the name, carry on advertising on Fox News, Google and others, just like they were, and we are back to playing seo catch up.

The part that gets me is that they make such a small change to the name, use the same story of conspiracy and more people fall for it. I assume that the purpose of the name change is to get around our pages which expose them.

Here is the link to the Power4Patriots Scam Review - what a name to select, and what can we say about the mind of those who get duped here.

I remain concerned at how few visitors to our scam pages explore our information on saving electricity or any of the pages on helpful information about energy.

Energy Scam Watch

I am delighted to announce that Smart Energy Portal and Open4Energy have combined to publish an industry Energy Scam Watch

It is exciting to have a recognized contributor to the energy industry take up this issue.

The part that has me most troubled is that a mere 4.4% of the visitors seeking information on a scam go on to explore a page that will help them learn how to save electricity or a page with information on real products. I would have expected this to be much higher?

DyoCore SolAir - Scam Review

Here we go again, California ripped off - Emerging Renewables Program - while trying to stimulate suppliers of distributed wind energy solutions.

My compliments to the Distributed Wind Energy Association for intervening and bringing this matter to the attention of the authorities.

Take a look at Open4Energy to read about the DyoCore SolAir scam - and sadly, their ongoing efforts to claim no wrong doing!

We have divided our scams directory into three sections:

1) The Energy Saving Scams directory!

2) The Renewable Energy Scams directory!

3) The Free Energy Scams directory!

We do hope that separating the categories into discreet lists will make the issues more clear to our readers

HoJo Motor is a Scam

And again with regret, I need to raise the issue of energy scams.

I do not claim to be the all knowing of energy. I do not know the quality of the products listed in the energy scams directory we publish.

Fact: There is no FREE energy - perpetual motion and magnets will not solve our electricity requirements.

We have written up an analysis of the false patent claims for the HoJo Motor here!

If you are considering any of the products listed in the following energy scam directory as a way to reduce your home energy bill please STOP NOW - they are misrepresenting the savings you can make!

Energy Scams

It is with much regret that I once again need to raise the issue of energy scams.

I do not claim to be the all knowing of energy. I do not know the quality of the products listed in the energy scams directory we publish.

But, consumer electricity bills are NOT altered by power factor correction, up or down. It is bogus and false marketing to suggest that any of these products will reduce a consumers electricity bill in any way at all. In fact, if they did by some peculiar interference with the meters working, it would be illegal. A consumer may not do anything to their electrical system which interferes with its readings of electricity consumed.

Fact: Electricity utility companies bill consumers for Watts - Volts x Amps x Power Factor - the actual amount consumed.

Fact: When the power factor is less than 100% the electricity is not being lost, only its phase is being altered. The consumer electrical tariffs include provision for the losses which this "out of phase" might cause the electricity supplier.

It is true that electricity suppliers need to manage their distribution networks, and that power factor IS one of the factors that impacts their distribution losses.

It is also true that large industrial users are charged a penalty for a net power factor of less than 85%. But distribution losses will not be solved by consumers. They are aggregate issues that can only be solved by the utility companies (the smart grid) in partnership with industry and device manufacturers.

If you are considering any of the products listed in the following energy scam directory as a way to reduce your home energy bill please STOP NOW - they are misrepresenting the savings you can make!

Faster Than the Wind

Happy Christmas to all our energy saving supporters.

Over the past year it has been my lot to write (not bloviate) on energy saving technologies that sound useful, but are in reality little more than 'near scams'. As we draw to a close in 2010, it is frustrating to reflect on how much traffic is generated by energy saving scams compared to articles on energy attitude or how to conduct a basic energy audit.

So you might imagine my pleasure at being sponsored by Edge Consulting to attend a presentation hosted by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) san Francisco Chapter titled - Downwind Faster Than the Wind.

Here is a link to the full article - Downwind Faster Than the Wind.

If you do not visit this link you will truly miss out. And do go to the video - click the image on the page - be patient, it takes a minute or so for the 'cart' to pick up speed but once it gets going, it really gets going.

Please do remember to save energy and to think about why you do this!

Smart Meters - Independent Review

Hello energy readers

A few weeks ago we posted an article on smart meters and health. Goodness, has it been well read and discussed.

So in keeping with open4energy's style we have built an information directory on the topic. In it we cover the topic, and link to articles and updates which we feel are relevant.

There is so much being written that is not accurate, but because it is contentious, it gets publicity.

We do hope that this link to Smart Meters - An Independent Review will help our community.
